CUC
Coins
In Cuba two different currencies circulate:
The Peso Cubano Nacional: legal tender for transactions by Cubans in "Peso shops"
The Peso Cubano Convertible (CUC) : to be used by tourists for their transactions in hotels, bars, casa particular, gas stations ... and in the "divisa" (previously dollar) shops
Some unscrupulous money changers on the streets will try to pass off "National" peso bills or coins as "convertibles" that are worth about 25 times more. I have therefore added some images to ensure travelers are able to differentiate between the two types of notes and coins.
The "street name" of the Peso Cubano Convertible on the streets is the "Chavito".
